NATHAN DAVIS

my alibi

lyrics and music by Nathan Davis

Maybe some day soon I'll find my rainbow.
Can't get to the end if you don't know where to begin.
Maybe somewhere down the line,
Someone'll show me to the sign
That points to a better way.

Someday soon life won't be so confusing.
Something tells me I won't be around for very long.
Oh, but girl if I die young,
Please don't forget the songs I've sung for you.
That ain't hard to do.

So you can dry your eyes and rest your weary head tonight.
I can find my own salvation giving up this fight.
Tear out my eyes, give 'em to a nice guy going blind;
Just tell him they've forgotten how to cry.

Take a long hard look
Into these big brown eyes,
Such a thin disguise;
They just might be my best alibi.

Do you remember dancing to the silence?
Do you remember saying how much faith you had in me?
Well, I guess you didn't mean it
Cause I never really saw it anyway,
That was yesterday.

I've been taking damn good care of me.
It seems lately I've found my reality.
So if I play a song, sing along,
It gives me what I need to carry on.
Is that so wrong?

Take a long hard look
Into these big brown eyes,
Take a long hard look
Into these crying eyes,
Such a thin disguise;
They just might be my best alibi.

Written when Nathan was a teenager, there is one line in the song that is prescient: Something tells me I won't be around for very long.

When I first heard the song, I thought the line was a bit dramatic. With hindsight, though. . .he did have beautiful big brown eyes.

Our only recording of this song is not very good quality, but it's all we have.
